Bio

Valentinos holds the position of Senior Manager in Tax Advisory Services in Baker Tilly Cyprus Valentinos is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC) and a member of of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). He is also a candidate of the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT) of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) qualification.

He holds a BA in Economics and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Nottingham (UK). He is Hon. Treasurer of the Cyprus – Ukraine Business Association (under the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry).

Valentinos Pavlides joined Baker Tilly Cyprus in 2011 with the last 6 years working in the Tax Advisory department and he is the person heading also the Transfer Pricing team. He also worked for 5 years in the Audit and Assurance department.

He has experience in Corporate Taxation, High Net Worth Individuals taxation and planning, Tax Compliance and InternationalTax Planning as well as in Due Diligence projects in a variety of industries.

Purpose

The primary purpose of the Tax & Legal Committee is to review and advise the Association on issues related to current Tax & Legal issues that affect the ASP industry. Specifically, the Committee has the task to review relevant Law amendments and monitor key developments as well as to keep contact with industry Regulators and other professional bodies to keep CYFA Board and Members updated with relevant tax and legal amendments and provides suggestions. The Committee also provides guidance with regards to the preparation of content for CYFA seminars related to topics of interest and is involved in the preparation of alerts, updates and other relevant material regarding legal, corporate and tax affairs for the Association’s web page.

Committee members consist of Member Firm representatives following a call of interest for a duration of 2 years per term. Committee meetings are held regularly throughout the year.

Bio

Andis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Arizona, USA, and a Master of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications (MSIMC) with Honors from Roosevelt University in Chicago, USA.

He is a seasoned business communications professional with over 25 years of experience in written, verbal and electronic communications in Cyprus and the United States. He has over 15 years of local and international experience and expertise in the tax, trust and corporate services industry and has worked for leading fiduciary services providers in senior management positions.

Andis is well versed in the formulation, management and coordination of business, corporate and marketing communications efforts in Cyprus and four continents around the globe. He has successfully executed business and marketing communications strategies for local and international companies in the corporate, financial, high technology, retail and insurance sectors. He is a Corporate ID watchdog, a brand strategist and a cultural marketing expert.

Purpose

The PR & Communications Committee primary aim is to improve public awareness about the role and activities CYFA and to promote the CYFA image through the building of connections with local media and the use of positive publicity and events. In addition is assigned with the task to find ways to encourage member participation in the Association’s activities, assist the BoD in the development of methods to communicate important information to members and associates as well as to prepare informative material for the Association’s web and social media presence.

Furthermore, the Committee works along with the Association Board and Management to maintain and enhance good relation and cooperation with official bodies and public authorities and in identifying ways for creating awareness and promoting Cyprus as an International Business centre.

Committee members consist of Member Firm representatives following a call of interest for a duration of 2 years per term. Committee meetings are held regularly throughout the year.

Maria Christofidou Chan

Bio

Maria graduated from the London School of Economics in the UK with BSc (Hons) Management Sciences and MSc. Decision Sciences. She is a holder of the CySEC’s AML Certification and has more than 16 years’ experience in the ASP sector.

Maria joined Trident Fiduciaries (Middle East) Limited in 2005, gaining considerable experience across all departments and areas of work with particular emphasis and interest in the compliance sector. Maria has been instrumental in the set-up of the Compliance Department, the implementation of the required AML related policies and procedures and the application and obtaining of the necessary ASP Authorisation following the industry’s regulation in 2013. Following the merger of the two Trident operations in Cyprus in 2020, Maria continued in the same role with Trident Trust Company (Cyprus) Limited where she currently is Senor Manager – Compliance and acting Compliance Officer.

Maria is the president of the AML and Compliance Affairs Committee since September 2020. Previously she acted as Secretary of the Committee since February 2018 and as member of the Committee since 2015.

Purpose

The AML & Compliance Affairs Committee is assigned with the task to deal with all related matters for the introduction and implementation of the Regulation of Undertakings Providing Management & Administration Services to Private Companies and Related Matters Law of 2012 (Ο Περί της Ρύθμισης των Επιχειρήσεων Παροχής Υπηρεσιών Διοίκησης Ιδιωτικών Εταιρειών και Συναφών Θεμάτων Νόμος του 2012) and the AML Directives of the three (3) current supervisory authorities of the fiduciary sector.

At the same time, the Committee is required to maintain contact with all Regulators for the exchange of views and cooperation on compliance issues and inform the Association on the latest developments on AML & Compliance Regulations on a local and international level. In addition, the Committee assists in the preparation of circulars and articles regarding AML & Compliance Affairs and provides guidance in regards to the preparation of content for seminars related to AML and compliance topics.
